About the Department
The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, Academic Services Unit is accepting applications for a Director of Retention. This student facing position works with faculty and staff to strategically employ inclusive and effective retention strategies within A&S. This person will also oversee our Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program.
Job Overview
Serve as a senior liaison between college and university personnel, faculty and students for student retention, persistence, and graduation. Strategically plan and execute all facets of student retention, including project management, and reporting.
Essential Functions
Provide direct oversight of college retention from first year to seniors with specific focus on the mid-collegiate experience, including career exploration and experiences.
Work collaboratively with the recruiting and advising teams for student success. Support the advising team as needed to create a sense of belonging.
Investigate retention and persistence best practices. Develop, implement, and administer goals to achieve strategic retention mission.
Responsible for collaborating efforts with administrative and academic units.
Communicate and assist students, parents, business partners, alumni, and other stakeholders to resolve complex issues; represent the college internally and externally.
Monitor budget, as authorized; may have authority for expense planning and approving expenditure; has signature authority for programs within area of responsibility; report on budget status to higher level administrator.
Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, deliver presentations, and ensure that retention programs and services comply with university policies and state/federal regulations.
Serve on university, college, and departmental committees and represent the department at various state and national associations.
Using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform, monitor and work to improve retention benchmarks and graduation rates through data analysis, early identification of at-risk behaviors, and provide guidance to mitigate student persistence issues, including such actions as personalized communication plans.
Identify problems or inefficiencies and work with the appropriate enrollment functional leader and/or campus partner to implement effective resolutions and improvements.
Train and develop staff, coaches and/or Retention Specialists
Work closely with Directors of Recruiting and Advising to provide program updates and retention support.
Escalate student retention concerns to the Assistant Dean or Leadership team
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.)
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of experience in higher education advising retention, graduation, and general business operations.
Three (3) years supervision experience, marketing/advertising acumen and effective public speaking.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Master’s degree.
Strong presentation skills.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
